Yesterday in class we made a scatterplot with the data found in our class table. We drew a correlation line and found that there was a positive correlation. We made a vocab list and decided that our definitions of states of matter should be strictly scientific. ~CJ

We are learning about characteristic properties of matter such as density. How can we explain this demonstration using the concept of density? http://voicethread.com/share/203797/

I found a great site to help with unit conversions. Type in the problem and the web site demonstrates how to convert the units. Try checking your homework with this tool. http://www.webmath.com/convert_length.html Remember the steps: 1. Rewrite the original amount with the units.
2. Multiply by a conversion ratio with the unit to discard on the bottom and the desired unit on the top.
3. Cancel the units.
4. Perform the numerical calculations.

Study for the test. Play this game. Chapter 1 game.
Objectives:
1. Explain how a thermometer works using the term "thermal expansion."
2. Explain why 50ml + 50ml dosen't always make 100ml using the word molecules."
9/12/08
We are continuing to explore metric measurements in the lab and we are collecting many interesting observations...like 50mL+50M=98mL (in the case of the yellow and blue liquids.) Stay tuned for our inferences!

Today we reviewed the various measurements that can be made using SI units such as length (meters), volume (liters), mass (grams), and area (square kilometers). Here is a link that can help you learn these. More information on SI Units Metric Measurement Game
9/5/08 Ice Melting We used this animation in class as a model to show that matter is made of particles that move. As the temperature changes, the speed of the water molecules also changes. How does this help explain why the food coloring dispersed more quickly in the hot water?
9/4/08
Objectives:
1. Describe the scientific method.
2. Make quantitative and qualitative observations.
3. Distinguish between observations and inferences.
